Ari Herstand - “Clean Up” official music video
Explanation of the video:
So at my official unofficial little EP release show last night at this amazing ‘fun house’ mansion place in Minneapolis a friend came up to me after the performance and said “so I may be dumb, but I don’t get your music video.” Since there was a crowd standing there I asked if anyone “got” it. And no one really understood it - just thought it looked cool. So I explained my and Gadi’s (the director) intention behind it, but obviously you can interpret it however you like. Basically it is a piece of art and art should be interpreted however you like. BUT, I’ll explain our intention so you can see where we were coming from and maybe you can sound cool when you explain the video to your friends. The video deals with alter egos and dual personalities. It represents the extreme polars of a personality and how counter productive that can be. How we have internal battles and have to balance our own emotional extremes. The blue character (Blue) is one personality extreme and the yellow character (Yellow) the other. Blue had a night of mayhem and Yellow (the same person) wakes up the next day and has no idea how the mess got there. After cleaning his apartment up Yellow notices a spray can near the door and follows the trail around town cleaning up Blue’s mess - his counterpart - not remembering anything that happened the evening prior. Think Tyler Durden in Fight Club here. Yellow spends the day and evening cleaning up after Blue literally and figuratively. We all need some emotional clean up now and then. To reboot. Represented here by a night of mayhem, sometimes some major event can be draining and we feel we stepped outside ourselves while it was happening or when we need to recover from that event or time in our life. Blue’s night of mayhem that Yellow spends the day cleaning up basically represents an extreme side of my personality where sometimes I let loose and go crazy. Yellow is my other polar that cleans up after myself when I go a little nuts. Hope you dig the video even more now! :) much love, ~Ari
